๐ Hi, guys, I hope youโre having a beautiful day, full of good readings & incredible moments!! โค๏ธ SO happy to have a moment to be able to share with you everything that Iโve been reading in the month of March plus, everything that I plan and will try to read during this month of April. ๐ Every time I have the chance to sit down to write a post this year it’s like a double blessing since I don’t have much time on my hands, so I’m really happy to be here guys, as always! So this month has been super positive for me in terms of reading, but we will talk about it a little later, now I wanted to take the space to thank you for the support you have given me as a person and also to the blog this month, it means a lot. Especially with respect to my “DEFINITIVE BOOK BLOGGER LIST“ which I must say I’m very proud of, I think tourn out beautiful and also quite organized which I intended, also I’m very pleased that more of you can interact and support each other thanks to this list, and also share each other contents, give likes, and comment, I think that after all the controversy that has occurred recently regarding how little we are valued as book bloggers in the bookish community in general, we need more love ๐ฅฐ, so this has been the perfect time to publish the list and thus show my support and be able to amplify our voices in some way, I know that we’re brilliant, we’re valuable and we do incredible and hard work with our contents so without a doubt, we deserve better and don’t let anyone make you think otherwise. ๐๐ป
In terms of reading this March has been great! ๐ in fact much better than my previous months, maybe it doesn’t seem that I read SO MUCH to you but I did, in fact, I’ve read 5 books last month, most of them good but not impressive books, only one of them has really managed to conquer me completely, but I’m super excited to share my thoughts with you on each of these books. ๐ Some of them with dark tones, with a bit of mystery, on the other hand, a bit of magic in contemporary stories, which I usually enjoy a lot, and finally a few paranormal elements, as well. I really feel super proud to have been able to read more than two books lol, it’s a great achievement so let’s celebrate together!! ๐ I hope to read even more, though, in April *fingers crossed*
Before continuing I wanted to apologize because I know that I’m super late with my reviews of these books, some I’ve already reviewed, but I still need to review most of them, so I’m sorry, I tend to be very punctual with my reviews but that’s fine, life is like that now, and soon I’ll bring you some double reviews maybe and a full one for my favorite book of the month. So I’ll probably be brief here because I want to leave some of my feelings & thoughts for the reviews.โค๏ธ
For this month my plans are basically reading ๐ย , aren’t those our plans every month, thought?! SHOCK! but not, seriously, I want to read, I’m feeling more and more eager to dedicate more time to my reading, and feeling that motivation again makes me happy, so I’ll take advantage of it while it lastsย ๐ค. I’ll surely be starting a new series, reading some ARCs as always & especially with the cold weather coming to my city hand in hand with autumn, I feel ready to read some spooky/creepy or perhaps suspense/mystery kind of books, something with a weird and atmospheric vibe.ย ๐ฒ So I’ll have a mini list to share with you, in addition to that within that list, I’ll be including some of my 5-star predictions to make it more fun. So I hope this is a very good month for EVERYONE & without further ado, I LOVE YOU โค๏ธ, I hope you enjoy the post, let me know everything in the comments, and LET’S GET STARTED!ย ๐
๐ ARCs of the month! ๐ฉฐ
๐ Bright Burning Stars by A.K. Small | Surprisingly all the ARCs I’ve read this month have had a very similar overall impact on me despite being obviously very different plots. In the case of Bright Burning Stars, I have that feeling that the idea of the plot as such, as well as the setting, are great, but at the same time, the problems are in the execution, obviously these are my personal thoughts while reading it but I honestly felt that there’s an immature tone in the characters and therefore also in several of their attitudes, that has made me roll my eyes in disbelief a couple of times. I understand on the other hand that the author’s idea has been to give us unlikeable characters, and that’s totally valid, only this time I haven’t been able to connect with any of the girls. Despite being a “meh” book in several aspects for me, I appreciate that wanted to address serious issues. I cannot speak personally from my experience, but I’m pleased to see an author dare to show us the darker side of perfectionism and competitiveness and how these factors can influence our mental health. I recommend discretion as issues such as abortion, emotional abuse, and eating disorders are also touched upon during the story. So in summary, I think it’s an entertaining enough plot to continue reading but the ending left me with a bittersweet feeling as well as the involution of the characters. PS: the friendship exploration is really interesting. | BOOK REVIEW |
๐ The Afterlife of the Party (Afterlife #1) by Marlene Perez | With this book I was certainly expecting more, I was excited to read it because it sounded so entertaining and it has vampires, so I thought it could be for me, unfortunately I was wrong. I get a little bored with this plot, again I found extremely childish characters for their age, who made hasty decisions and above all quite selfish and self-centered characters. I didn’t like any of them, it’s a shame because I really wanted it to work for me, you know? The plot is everywhere, it has a plot-line idea but it’s not strong enough to keep the reader interested and it’s quite absurd at times, I was like … What am I reading!? I was hoping it would get better, but otherwise, it got worse. I confess, thought, that it took away some laughs from me, I don’t know for the right reasons, but at least it lifted my mood and made me want to know what would happen, which is good. It reminded me of Riverdale at times, I used to love that series and then it started to get VERY weird and then weirder and then it was a disaster lol so basically if you want something like Riverdale but paranormal maybe this is the book for you.
I promise to bring my full review soon so I can explain a little more each of my thoughts. | FULL REVIEW TO COME |
๐ This Is Not the Jess Show (This Is Not the Jess Show #1) by Anna Carey | This book is very good, of the ARCs I’ve read this month this is my favorite without a doubt, the promise is wonderful and I really enjoyed the plot itself as well as the characters. Going deeper, I think that perhaps a little more depth was needed in more important aspects, by this I mean human issues and the reason for each action behind the characters, I don’t want to give much information about the plot itself, but everything is about this huge and important revelation that’s made to the main character, and I feel too much information is given very quickly about what’s really happening and this prevents the reader from being able to feel everything that the main character is feeling since we already know what’s behind beforehand, you know? I think there’s basically a lack of building, like everything happens too quikly.
Still I LOVE Ana Carey as a writer, I remember reading “Eve” like a thousand years ago and loving it so much that it will always feel nice to read her stories, you know? The book is solid, the idea is brilliant although I recommend not reading the synopsis if possible, and it’s kind of based on one of my favorite films, also the execution is very good. I was expecting something darker and more sci-fi focused, but I had lighter reactions and a more contemporary approach, which isn’t bad, just another perspective.
I had a lot of things that I loved especially in terms of reveals and WTF moments, but I have a million questions still!! I know there will be a second book so I’m excited about that! | FULL REVIEW TO COME |
๐พ Two of My Most Anticipated Books of 2021 โณ
๐ The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab | I plan to bring you a full review of this book soon, I really want to talk to you about my countless emotions while reading it! I basically LOVED this book, I’ve read the author many times before and I always enjoy her style, but I don’t think there has been a book by her that has made me feel as many emotions as this one, I think it’s her best work so far. Addie LaRue isn’t just a story about a young woman who makes a pact with the devil to be immortal, it’s much more than that, it’s a story about what it means to live and the importance of the people who are part of our lives, about the impact we have on others and how valuable memories are. It’s such a beautiful and tragic book, all at the same time, thinking about it makes me happy and makes me sad also because there’s so much darkness in this story, but it also shows the light and how the little things in life can save us. One of the best books I’ve read so far this year, I adored it & am excited to talk much more about it soon, although I hope to find the right words to do it justice. | FULL REVIEW TO COME |
๐ Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour | I won’t lie, I thought I would love this book much more than I did, you know? Especially since We Are Okay is one of my favorite books of all time, I still quite enjoyed it. I love the author’s prose and the meaning behind her stories is always very clear at the end. I love how in this story the author explores grief, loss, and mental health, among other things. It’s a book about healing and getting ahead after going through difficult situations. I loved the bond that exists between the characters and how pure and fluid everything is despite each other’s hard pasts. On the other hand, I expected a greater emotional charge on me when reading the book, I suppose I couldn’t connect with the characters on a higher level and that’s super personal, the story itself is very good, but I expected to feel closer to the characters, and the truth is that many of them went unnoticed by me. Also, I didn’t like the main character, I think there are moments where she can be too absorbing and I know that’s not really her intention but some of her actions seemed exaggerated and even paranoid towards the people who supported her. On the other hand I understand, she’s a girl who has been through a lot, so I guess everything has justification, even so I wanted to tell you about my experience and how her personality didn’t resonate with me. The combination of contemporary with paranormal elements is very good, and something that I really like to find in my stories. In short, it’s a solid book with a beautiful meaning behind it that in the end was very worth reading. | FULL REVIEW TO COME |
โจ Exciting ARCs ๐ก๏ธ
๐ Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli | Contrary to popular belief, best friends Kate Garfield and Anderson Walker are not codependent. Carpooling to and from theater rehearsals? Environmentally sound and efficient. Consulting each other on every single life decision? Basic good judgment. Pining for the same guys from afar? Shared crushes are more fun anyway.
But when Kate and Andyโs latest long-distance crush shows up at their school, everything goes off script. Matt Olsson is talented and sweet, and Kate likes him. She really likes him. The only problem? So does Anderson.
Turns out, communal crushes arenโt so fun when real feelings are involved. This one might even bring the curtains down on Kate and Andersonโs friendship.
๐ The Last Secret Youโll Ever Keep by Laurie Faria Stolarz | Four daysโฆ
Trapped in a well, surrounded by dirt, scratching at the walls trying to find a way out.
Four days of a thirst so strong, that when it finally rains, I drink as much as possible from the dripping walls, not even caring how much dirt comes with it.
Six monthsโฆ
Since my escape. Since no one believed I was taken to begin with โ from my own bed, after a party, when no one else was homeโฆ
Six months of trying to find answers and being told instead that I made the whole incident up.
One monthโฆ
Since I logged on to the Jane Anonymous site for the first time and found a community of survivors who listen without judgment, provide advice, and console each other when needed.
A month of chatting with a survivor whose story eerily mirrors my own: a girl whoโs been receiving triggering clues, just like me, and who could help me find the answers Iโm searching for.
Three daysโฆ
Since she mysteriously disappears, and since Iโm forced to ask the questions: will my chance to find out what happened to me vanish with her? And will I be next?
๐ The Helm of Midnight (The Five Penalties #1) by Marina J. Lostetter | A legendary serial killer stalks the streets of a fantastical city in The Helm of Midnight, the stunning first novel in a new trilogy from acclaimed author Marina Lostetter.

Now Charbon is loose once more, killing from beyond the grave. But these murders are different from before, not simply random but the work of a deliberate mind probing for answers to a sinister question.
It is up to Krona Hirvath and her fellow Regulators to enter the mind of madness to stop this insatiable killer while facing the terrible truths left in his wake.
๐ Starting & Continuing Series โค๏ธ
๐ Jade City (The Green Bone Saga #1) by Fonda Lee | JADE CITY is a gripping Godfather-esque saga of intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu.
The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion–but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.
When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.
๐ Bridge of Souls (Cassidy Blake #3) by Victoria Schwab | Where there are ghosts, Cassidy Blake follows … unless it’s the other way around?
Cass thinks she might have this ghost-hunting thing down. After all, she and her ghost best friend, Jacob, have survived two haunted cities while travelling for her parents’ TV show.
But nothing can prepare Cass for New Orleans, which wears all of its hauntings on its sleeve. In a city of ghost tours and tombs, raucous music and all kinds of magic, Cass could get lost in all the colourful, grisly local legends. And the city’s biggest surprise is a foe Cass never expected to face: a servant of Death itself.
Cass takes on her most dangerous challenge yet…
๐ Spooky TBR & 5-Star Predictions ๐ฒ
๐ Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas | When children go missing in the small coastal town of Astoria, people look to Wendy for answers.
It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the townโs children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothersโ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.
Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.
๐ House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland | Seventeen-year-old Iris Hollow has always been strange. Something happened to her and her two older sisters when they were children, something they canโt quite remember but that left each of them with an identical half-moon scar at the base of their throats.
Iris has spent most of her teenage years trying to avoid the weirdness that sticks to her like tar. But when her eldest sister, Grey, goes missing under suspicious circumstances, Iris learns just how weird her life can get: horned men start shadowing her, a corpse falls out of her sisterโs ceiling, and ugly, impossible memories start to twist their way to the forefront of her mind.
As Iris retraces Greyโs last known footsteps and follows the increasingly bizarre trail of breadcrumbs she left behind, it becomes apparent that the only way to save her sister is to decipher the mystery of what happened to them as children.
The closer Iris gets to the truth, the closer she comes to understanding that the answer is dark and dangerous โ and that Grey has been keeping a terrible secret from her for years.
๐ White Fox by Sara Faring | After their world-famous actor mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Manon and Thaรฏs left their remote Mediterranean island homeโsent away by their pharma-tech tycoon father. Opposites in every way, the sisters drifted apart in their grief. Yet their mother’s unfinished story still haunts them both, and they can’t put to rest the possibility that she is still alive. Lured home a decade later, Manon and Thaรฏs discover their motherโs legendary last work, long thought lost: White Fox, a screenplay filled with enigmatic metaphors. The clues in this dark fairytale draw them deep into the island’s surreal society, into the twisted secrets hidden by their glittering family, to reveal the truth about their motherโand themselves.
๐ Horrid by Katrina Leno | From the author of You Must Not Miss comes a haunting contemporary horror novel that explores themes of mental illness, rage, and grief, twisted with spine-chilling elements of Stephen King and Agatha Christie.
Following her father’s death, Jane North-Robinson and her mom move from sunny California to the dreary, dilapidated old house in Maine where her mother grew up. All they want is a fresh start, but behind North Manor’s doors lurks a history that leaves them feeling more alone…and more tormented.
As the cold New England autumn arrives, and Jane settles in to her new home, she finds solace in old books and memories of her dad. She steadily begins making new friends, but also faces bullying from the resident “bad seed,” struggling to tamp down her own worst nature in response. Jane’s mom also seems to be spiraling with the return of her childhood home, but she won’t reveal why. Then Jane discovers that the “storage room” her mom has kept locked isn’t for storage at all–it’s a little girl’s bedroom, left untouched for years and not quite as empty of inhabitants as it appears….
Is it grief? Mental illness? Or something more…horrid?
